We've Got Good News for You!
Maybe we should say that GOD has good news for you - we're just
reporting it!
After all, the word gospel actually means "good news".
John 3:16 tells us
that "God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him should not die but have everlasting life".
This simple message tells us so much about the God of all the earth -
how He cares for each of us and how He gives us a way to be with him.
Romans 1:16 calls the gospel "the power of God unto salvation".
The Son referred to
here is Jesus the Christ. The prophet John told his followers that
Jesus was "the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world"
(John 1:29), and that "I saw and bare record that this is the Son of God
(John 1:36).
In any good news
article, you need to know WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and HOW.
From John 3:16 we know:
Who - from God to all
the world
What - everlasting life
When - when our sins are taken away
Where - anywhere
Why - He loves us
Which leaves us the
HOW - How do we take advantage of this wonderful grace that God offers
through Jesus?
We must believe that
Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus himself told the Jews "if you
believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins" (John 8:24).
But what does it mean to believe? Is it just a mental
acknowledgement? That cannot be enough. Jesus said "not
every one that saith unto me 'Lord, Lord' shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven"
(Matthew 7:21). Revelation 22:14 tell us "blessed are they that do
his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life, and may
enter in through the gates into the city".
When reading through
the New Testament, it is apparent that when people heard the good news
of Jesus - they took action! Notice what they were told to do:
Believe - John 8:24,
Hebrews 11:6
Repent - Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38
Confess Christ as the Son of God - Romans 10:10
Be Baptized - Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:18, Acts 2:38
Live a life committed to Christ - Galatians 2:20
