What is so Great about Bible Class - excerpted from an article by Glenn Alexander

...Bible class is a very special place indeed.  It is...

A Place to Learn By Experience.  Respect for parents and elders, in general, is a must for children.  It's great to sit at the feet of adults full of wisdom and godly advice.  "With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding" (Job 12:12).  Teachers not only have a storehouse of Bible knowledge they are eager to share, they also have experience we can learn from.  Indians would mark dangerous bogs or quicksand with sticks so that others could avoid them.  Always listen to and remember the wise words of Bible teachers to avoid many a heartache (Titus 2:1-4).

A Place to Learn by Example.  Like Mary in Luke 10:39, bible class is just like sitting at Jesus' feet as His word is taught.  Christians show Christ to the world in word and deed by striving to walk in His footsteps (1 Peter 2:21).  I'm the first to admit that I fall short and stumble like everyone else.  One wonderful blessing of bible class is that it makes us better by the powerful example of good people all around us.

A Place to Learn by Explanation.  Like the Eunuch in Acts 8:31, we can all use guidance in the Scriptures.  The Bible is basically a simple book, but teachers are skilled in breaking down the word into bits we can digest.  Private study is profitable (2 Timothy 2:15), but questions arise that group discussion can often answer.  "So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading" (Nehemiah 8:8).

A Place to Learn by Exposure.  We all know what happens to grass that is not exposed to sunlight; it soon dies.  Likewise, children who are not exposed to the continual light of God's word will likewise die - "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children"  (Hosea 4:6).  While we cannot always shield our loved ones from the evils of this world, we can make sure they are inoculated with truth and protected by the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17). [ This begins in the home (Ephesians 6:4) and Bible Class certainly helps - Andrew Roberts]

A Place to Learn by Expansion.  Without continual stimulation, our brain grows weak and lazy.  If our minds aren't focused on the good, they drift with the bad.  It's a fact that we use only a very small part of our brain's capacity.  Bible Class is where we come to exercise our spirits, so we can grow up healthy in the Lord (1 Peter 2:2).  "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be glory both now and forever Amen. (2 Peter 3:18).  It's also true that about 80% of our converts come straight out of Bible classes.  The reverse is also true; children who do not attend Bible class programs most likely will not stay in the Lord's church in adulthood.  A congregation can never grow stronger than its Bible class program.

Yes, Bible class is a blessing for us and our children.
