I Get 86,400 A Day

Robert Lee supposed each person had $86,400 credited in his or her account each morning.  The catch was that no balance from day to day was allowed.  At the end of the day any amount not used was cancelled.   What would you do?  No doubt you would use every cent.  Well, you do have an account and its name is time.

Every morning you are credited with 86,400 seconds.  Every night the account rules as lost whatever seconds you failed to invest to good purposes.  It carries no balances.  Each day a new account is opened for you.  Each night it burns the records of the day.  If you failed to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours.

Time is more important than dollars and yet how much of it do we lose every day?  Sadly, the loss accumulates over weeks, months, and years.  Only God knows the time that has been invested in our accounts that was never used.  We either use it or lose it.  Those seconds will never come again.

Jesus was the master of spending His allotted time each day.  "He went about doing good" (Acts 10:38).  He spent some time in prayer, some resting, some teaching, some healing, some at a wedding feast.  Obviously He depleted His daily allotment for He said "I must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day for the night cometh when no man can work" (John 9:4).

The psalmist said "...teach us to number our days" (Psalm 90:12).  "Redeem the time," Paul urged (Ephesians 5:16).  Are you spending wisely your 86,400 seconds each day?
