Psalm 111:10 reads,
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good
understanding have those who do His commandments; His praise endures
forever."
Keeping God’s commandments is a result of a good understanding of the
Scriptures. In addition, when an individual does God’s commands their
understanding of those same commands develop. By doing God’s commands a
person learns by hands-on experience why God made certain commands. When
a person experiences the reciprocation of doing God’s will they see that
God is caring and providing for them.
As an example, we know that the Bible commands "honesty" (Eph. 4:25).
By reading the Bible a person learns to be honest. Therefore, in a
desire to please God, a person will never lie, cheat, or act
deceptively. This is good, but it is only the beginning. When the same
person practices honesty their truthfulness reciprocates admiration by
many and is befriended by others. In this manner the person develops a
better understanding why God said to be honest - they understand results
of honesty.
With each day, under the guidance of the Scriptures, those who do
God’s commands gain a better understanding as to why God said to do or
not to do certain things. By reading His commands we gain
knowledge of what is pleasing to God. By doing His commands we
learn to appreciate His knowledge and revealing will for us as we see
our lives profiting from obedience.
Hebrews 5:14 "But solid food belongs to those who are of full age,
that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil."
